Argentina: Contest begins to select Competition authorities

 |  February 19, 2019
The regulations for the contest that will choose the new heads at the Argentine National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNDC) have been approved by the Secretariats of Internal Commerce and Economy, which will allow the contest to be carried out this spring. .

The contest will serve to select new appointees to the positions of president of the CNDC, members, instructor secretary of Anticompetitive Conduct, and Secretary of Economic Mergers. Ignacio Werner, Secretary of Internal Commerce, will shortly appoint the members of the jury, which will approve the bidding rules and the profile proposed by Internal Commerce.

The contest will replace the current president of the CNDC, Esteban Greco, and commission members María Fernanda Viecens, Marina Roberta Bidart, Eduardo Stordeur, and Pablo Trevisán. These officials may continue on, should they be selected through the contest.

The competition defense system was substantially modified in 2018 with the approval of a new law (27,442) and other regulations, installing greater control over corporate mergers and anticompetitive behavior, in addition to establishing a new system of double review, a leniency program, and the increase in penalties for anti-trust violations, among other substantial changes.
