Armenia: Agency candidate promises to address the issue of high prices of air tickets
Gegham Gevorkyan, a candidate nominated for the post of Head of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition, told the lawmakers Friday, April 19, he would look into the reasons behind the high cost of airline tickets and try to address the issue.
Gevorkyan’s remarks came in response to a question from parliament member Mikael Zolyan from My Step faction if this is due to unfair competition.
Gevorkyan replied that when considering this question several aspects need to be taken into account. “It is necessary to understand whether the high cost of air tickets results from the high cost of certain services and then to understand why these airlines sell tickets at high prices,” he said.
He said also that an earlier study revealed that the cost of the same services in Armenia is not as high as was claimed. Gevorkyan also noted that it is necessary to study the pricing policy of various companies.
“I promise that if I am elected, this issue will be in the center of my attention, and we will thoroughly study the problem,” said Gevorkyan.
