Brazil: Regulator confirms sale of Itambé to Lactalis

 |  February 20, 2018

The approval by Brazil’s Administrative Council of Economic Defense (CADE) for the sale of dairy producer Itambé to French company Lactalis was ratified on Thursday, February 15, when the deadline for filing appeals passed.

The regulatory agency had approved the decision at the end of January, without restrictions. Now approved by the board, the sale is recognized as a legal transaction.

The decision of CADE gives a boost to the Central Cooperative of Rural Producers of the state of Minas Gerais (CCPR), chaired by businessman Marcelo Candiotto (also president of Itambé), to strengthen the position of the cooperative in the case it faces against Vitgor Alimentos, former partner of Itambé and now owned by the Mexican group Lala. “The matter has been resolved from the point of view of competition. All that remains is to investigate, “said Candiotto.
