EU: EC initiates in-depth LSE – Boerse probe

 |  September 28, 2016

The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation to assess whether the proposed merger between Deutsche Börse AG and London Stock Exchange Group would reduce competition in several financial market infrastructure areas.

EC Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said: “Financial markets provide an essential function for the European economy. We must ensure that market participants continue to have access to financial market infrastructure on competitive terms. Therefore, we have opened an in-depth investigation to assess the proposed merger.”

The EC stated on its website that it is concerned about the merger effecting the markets of clearing, derivatives, repurchasing agreements, German stocks, exchange traded products and other markets.
