According to people familiar with the matter, Siemens is in discussions with Alstom and Bombardier to combine rail lines.
Siemens has been reported to be in joint venture negotiations for several months with Bombardier, but now reports are saying that the company has recently approached Alstom as well.
The Alstom options are reported to either Siemens assimilating its rail business into Alstom in exchange for a large stake in the bigger French entity, or possibly a joint venture.
Alstom shares jumped as much as 4.3% on Thursday, September 21, and Siemens shares rose 1.3% to €117.50 (US$140.23) in Frankfurt.
