Peru: Telecom watchdog extends its antitrust powers

Peru’s telecommunications sector regulator Osiptel has published newly-approved guidelines for settling disputes arising from anti-competitive and unfair practices in telecommunications.

According to the new rules, the watchdog will now take into account factors identifying dominant positions while assessing the main incidences of abuse of market dominance as well as horizontal and vertical acts of collusion.

In addition, the scope of Osiptel’s jurisdiction will now extend to acts of unfair competition, such as deception, defamation, rule infringement and corporate sabotage.
