Russia: Regulator stands firm on banning national roaming fees

 |  August 17, 2017

National roaming charges will be scrapped in Russia in the future despite ongoing discussions on the issue, reports business news agency Prime citing Igor Artemyev, the head of the federal competition watchdog FAS. Politicians in both the lower and upper chambers of the Russian parliament have already expressed their will on the matter.

The regulator claims that it is ready to cooperate with the four major mobile operators on the issue, taking into account their needs, to discuss terms and technologies.

In July, FAS warned the mobile operators Beeline, MTS, Megafon and Tele2 Russia that they should stop charging extra for national roaming by August 13, 2017.
