Spain: CNMC approves pricing methodology for fiber optics; Telefónica will have 15 days to announce the price

 |  March 20, 2018
Spain’s National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has approved the methodology for calculating wholesale fiber optic prices, according to the Official State Gazette, which published the resolution.

The resolution gives Spanish telephone giant Telefónica a period of 15 days to inform the CNMC and its competitors, such as Vodafone and Orange, of the price at which it will give access to its fiber optic network in those areas where it is forced to do so by competition regulations.

The final aim is for most representative fiber products of Telefónica to be “replicated” by the alternative operators that use their wholesale fiber services, that is, for the other companies to be able to offer an equivalent service at a similar price. Telefónica must offer access to smaller operators throughout its fiber optic network, except in the 66 most competitive municipalities in Spain.
