UK: Vodafone accuses BT of loading costs

Vodafone has criticised BT for “loading costs” on to its Openreach division, which operates the national broadband network used by internet service providers, the FT reported.

Vodafone, Sky and TalkTalk depend on Openreach’s network to supply internet services to their customers, and in turn pay BT a price regulated by Ofcom that reflects in part the division’s own complex costs.

Vodafone estimates that BT’s regulated prices would have been on average 11 percent lower had BT’s regulated returns been in line with the cost of capital.
