A federal appeals court is currently considering a decision that could reshape the health care world in the midstate for years.
The arguments that were presented on July 26 in Philadelphia essentially matched ones from previous court hearings and legal briefs.
Penn State Health and PinnacleHealth have already won in district court, and continue to say a merger would bring efficiencies and allow more competition with health systems in Philadelphia and Baltimore.
The Federal Trade Commission and state Attorney General’s office – which appealed the lower court’s decision – say the merger would actually reduce competition and lead to higher prices for consumers.
A decision about the proposed Penn State Health PinnacleHealth merger is expected to be delivered by the end of the summer.
