 |  July 2, 2017

Telecom Argentina, a leading mobile and fixed telecommunications company in Argentina and also a mobile telecoms provider in Paraguay, and Cablevisión, the leading pay TV and broadband Internet service provider in Argentina and second largest pay TV provider in Uruguay, announced on Sunday a plan to merge to create a leading provider of convergent telecommunications services and to participate in the opening of the telecommunications sector, expected to begin in January 2018, according to Argentine regulations.

The Boards of Directors of the Companies approved a Preliminary Merger Agreement on June 30. The proposed transaction follows a worldwide convergent trend towards combining the provision of fixed and mobile telecommunications services and distribution of video and internet, known as “quadruple play”.

The combined company would become a leader in convergent solutions for individuals and facilitate the digital operations of enterprises and corporations. The combination of the two Companies will strengthen their investment in modern, mobile technology infrastructure as well as the build-out of a high speed fiber-optic network.

Telecoms in Argentina mirror the international convergence in fixed and wireless networks and platforms to provide integrated voice, data and image transmission solutions.
