Asia: Conference propels ASEAN competition goals

Representatives from ASEAN member states wrapped up a conference late last week that propelled the Southeast Asia group’s efforts to implement a uniform competition policy.

The Fourth Asean Competition Conference was held in Manila last week and centered around the “Building Blocks for Effective Enforcement of Competition Policy and Law.” Representatives joined from ASEAN states, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Korea, the EU and the US.

The ASEAN nations are looking to implement a united economy and regulatory framework to boost competition in their region for economic improvement. The nations are gearing up to establish the ASEAN Economic Community next year, reports say, to implement those goals.
