Australian Competition Regulator Delays Aon-Willis Review

 |  April 25, 2021

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has delayed its review of the proposed combination of Aon and Willis Towers Watson to gather further information from the brokers, the group stated on Friday, April 23.

The previous date of May 27 for the “announcement of findings” had been delayed. The ACCC stated it would announce a new proposed decision date “in due course.”

Aon’s US$30 billion offer for Willis has attracted increased scrutiny recently and European competition authorities are expected to require divestitures of certain specific WTW businesses, likely to include the reinsurance business Willis Re, in order to approve the deal.

European Union antitrust regulators also recently extended until July 27 the deadline for their decision on the deal.
