Brazil: Competition regulator approves Hughes-Yahsat joint venture

 |  September 9, 2019

Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) approved, without restrictions, the joint venture between Hughes and Yahsat, announced last May to offer connectivity in the Ka-band in Brazil.

The regulator found that the two companies together have a 0.50% share of the local fixed broadband market, with less than 160,000 subscribers. It also established that the market is served by technologies other than those used by Yahsat and Hughes, and that satellite coverage would not dominate.

The transaction will still have to be analyzed by the National Telecommunications Agency.
