Brazil's antitrust regulator, Cade fined Rumo on Wednesday for “creating difficulties” to rival Agrovia, which operates in the transport of sugar for export. The investigation began in 2016, based on a complaint made to Cade by Agrovia. The company claimed at the time that it depended on the use of the Malha Paulista, controlled by Rumo-ALL, to transport sugar to the Port of Santos, in São Paulo, and that the company was creating obstacles to its operation. The complaint was reinforced by a communication sent to Cade by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), which found evidence of violations of the economic order in a process that was being processed at the agency involving the same companies.
