Bulgaria: Competition authorities urged to stay strong against electricity protestors

The Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria is urging authorities, including the Commission on Protection of Competition, to not give-in to public pressure concerning high energy costs, and to sort the matter out themselves. Citizens have rallied in protests across the nation over the high costs of electricity and, in response, the CEIBG met with power distributors to discuss the mounting disapproval of the industry. Senior officials of the power distributors agreed that competition and consumer authorities and watchdogs should solve the issue and remain independent of pressure imposed upon the government by the protestors.
