Competition Authority rules out gas station price fixing in Galway

The Competition Authority has ruled out price fixing or cartel activity as explanations for high fuel prices in Galway gas stations, relative to other towns. The watchdog found that prices are closely monitored between the stations, but no evidence of anticompetitive behavior was found. Conor Faughnan, spokesperson for the Automobile Association, nevertheless stated that “It’s deeply suspicious when you look at a particular town or city that prices of fuel in different stations move up and down together like line dancers.”
