Competition Tribunal unconditionally OKs 85 percent of De Beers to Anglo American

The South African Competition Tribunal has unconditionally approved Anglo American’s acquisition of 85 percent of De Beers. The diamond company was sold for $5.1 billion to the British miner, which bought Central Holdings’ 40 percent share. Central Holdings is controlled by the Oppenheimer family. Botswana owns the remaining 15 percent of De Beers.
