The European Commission has approved TPV’s proposed acquisition of Philips’ branded color TV business. The Commission found that the deal created only limited overlap in the branded LCD color TV market. Moreover, despite the vertical relationship that would result, there would be enough alternative suppliers of either downstream branded LCD color TVs or upstream unbranded LCD color TVs to allay competition concerns.
