EU: Vestager creates Digital Markets Advisory panel

 |  April 3, 2018

Lawyers who frequently face Europe’s antitrust watchdog have welcomed the appointment of a three-person panel of special advisers to the European Commission, which will produce a report on the future challenges digitalization will bring to competition enforcement.

Professors Heike Schweitzer, Jacques Crémer and Assistant Professor Yves-Alexandre de Montjoye have been appointed by the European Commission to be Special Advisers to European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager for the period  April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019, focusing on future challenges of digitisation for competition policy.

Digitisation means that markets are going through many changes – not just technology markets, but markets throughout the European economy. Against this background, Commissioner Vestager has decided to set up a panel of advisers from outside the Commission. Her objective is to seek their input on what the key upcoming digital changes are that will affect markets and consumers, and on their implications for competition policy.
