FCC Clears $7.3 Billion Viasat-Inmarsat Deal

The Federal Communications Commission has granted Viasat permission to proceed with its acquisition of Inmarsat, which is estimated to cost $7.3 billion.

Both satellite service providers intend to finalize the deal later this month. The commission’s approval was unconditional and came shortly after the British competition regulator provided a comparable opinion.

Viasat and Inmarsat plan to create a global hybrid network that combines their spectrum, terrestrial, and satellite assets to fulfill government and commercial satcom needs.

In November 2021, the companies announced the transaction’s value, which includes $850 million in cash, $3.1 billion in Viasat shares, and $3.4 billion in assumed debt.
