France: Parliament approves new competition head

France’s Senate voted to approve Isabelle de Silva as the new head of the country’s competition enforcer, following a hearing before its economic affairs committee.

She is replacing Bruno Lasserre at the head of the Competition Authority. Isabelle de Silva was already a member of the institution’s College since 2012.

The powers of the Competition Authority were greatly expanded by the provisions of the LME in 2009.

In 2015, the Authority imposed for 1.25 billion euros in fines.
