France/US: Iliad sees an opening for T-Mobile

Soon after reports emerged that third-place US wireless operator Sprint would no longer pursue an acquisition of its smaller rival T-Mobile, Iliad is reportedly preparing for a renewed offer.

Iliad had reportedly submitted a bid to acquire a stake in T-Mobile for $15 billion. Unnamed sources say that with Sprint out of the bidding competition, French wireless operator Iliad is confident it could strike a deal across the Atlantic.

Those sources also added that Iliad will likely prepare a renewed offer to T-Mobile claiming it can cut from the company’s $28 billion annual cost base, say reports.

T-Mobile seemed unimpressed by Iliad’s first offer, however, having rejected it when the industry still expected a deal with Sprint to move forward.
