France: Wireless wars continue with possible Virgin bid

 |  May 6, 2014

Soon after Bouygues lost to Numericable to acquire wireless operator SFR, reports say Bouygues and SFR have approached their newest rival, Virgin Mobile, for a possible acquisition.

According to reports, Virgin is the newest wireless operator in France to offer LTE service. But UK retailer Carphone Warehouse, which owns a 46 percent stake in Virgin’s French wireless operations, is reportedly slated to sell its shares.

Local reports say it could be looking to receive offers by May 15.

SFR, France’s second-place operator, and Bouygues, its third-place operator, along with mobile virtual operators, are reportedly looking to bid on the shares. Top operator Orange is reportedly not interested in a Virgin acquisition.
