Global: World Economic Forum a stomping ground for M&A

 |  January 21, 2014

While the World Economic Forum is held every year as an opportunity for the world’s decision makers to convene on major economic policy, reports say the even is increasingly the stomping ground for major merger deals to begin.

Major advertising agency firms Publicis and Omnicom first discussed a possible merger at last year’s Forum, say reports, and two years ago the New York Stock Exchange and Deutsche Borse met at the event and began a lofty, ultimately unsuccessful merger bid.

As this year’s event is set to begin this week, companies are looking to gather in Sweden and potentially strike up some major merger deals.

It’s an important opportunity, reports say, as last year’s mergers and acquisitions earning report was the lowest since 2009.
