Google Seeks To Have Antitrust Suit Over Online Ads Dismissed

 |  March 28, 2023

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has requested a dismissal of a lawsuit filed by the Justice Department which accuses the search engine of illegally exploiting its dominance in the online advertising industry.

The government, which filed the ad tech lawsuit in January along with eight states, had argued that Google should be forced to sell its ad manager suite. Google has denied any wrongdoing. The case is being heard by US Judge Leonie Brinkema in the Eastern District of Virginia.

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against ad tech, following another lawsuit filed in 2020 accusing Google of antitrust violations in maintaining its search dominance. The trial for the latter case is set for September, reported Reuters.

The Biden administration has sought to toughen antitrust enforcement. Alongside the Google suit, it also has a long list of merger challenges.
