Dr. Stanley Wong, the first Chief Executive Officer of the Competition Commission, passed away peacefully on 30 April 2016 in Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Wong was widely respected around the world as a leading expert in competition law.

Since his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission in 2014, Dr. Wong had shown exemplary leadership particularly in the run-up to the full implementation of the Competition Ordinance in late 2015. During the early stages of the Commission’s operations, Dr. Wong played a pivotal role in building a strong foundation for the Commission including the formulation of guidelines and policies that are essential for guiding the Commission’s future work. The Commission benefited immensely from Dr. Wong’s profound knowledge and outstanding leadership.

Dr. Wong was a well-known figure in the international competition law community and the Commission is aware that his loss will be keenly felt by his many colleagues and friends in our fellow competition agencies and in academic institutions and law firms around the world.

The Commission is greatly saddened by Dr. Wong’s passing and wishes to express its deepest condolences to his family and to all who knew and worked with him.
