The banking group Banca Popolare dell’Emilia Romagna (BPER) won conditional approval to acquire rival Unipol Banca , currently controlled by UnipolSai, Reuters reported on Thursday, July 18.
The approval comes from the Italy’s competition regulator which found that the operation would strengthen BPER’s position in the region of Sardinia and therefore stated that Unipol Banca should sell its branches there to an independent player.
