Paul, Weiss has made an addition to its antitrust litigation group, with a distinguished former federal judge and senior Justice Department official.
The firm announces the arrival of Katherine B. Forrest, who joins from Cravath, where she practiced for many years in between government posts. Ms. Forrest previously served as a district judge in New York’s Southern District as well as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division.
Joining Paul, Weiss’s litigation bench in New York, she will help handle major investigations, complex litigation and trials, along with criminal and regulatory enforcement matters.

Appointed to the federal bench by President Obama in 2011, Ms. Forrest sat for seven years, presiding over several thousand cases, and wrote more than 1,000 opinions. Among standout matters, she sentenced Ross Ulbricht, operator of the notorious dark web site Silk Road, to life imprisonment. She also oversaw a jury trial resulting in the largest terror-related civil forfeiture on record; the seizure and sale of a skyscraper linked to Iranian interests to compensate terrorism victims; and ordered UPS to pay $247 million in damages and penalties to New York City and state for shipping hundreds of thousands of cartons of untaxed cigarettes between Indian reservations and unlicensed dealers.
“Katherine is a transcendent talent, with deep experience and expertise as a former federal district court judge, a senior governmental official and a renowned private practitioner,” said firm Chairman Brad S. Karp. “She is one of our nation’s leading trial lawyers, antitrust litigators and corporate advisers and someone who is at the forefront of the increasingly important intersection of law and technology. Katherine is one of a select number of lawyers who clients have on speed dial for ‘bet-the-company’ investigations and trials, adding to the depth of our market-leading Litigation Department.”
