Portugal: Ford loses appeal for misleading enforcer

 |  October 17, 2017

A Portuguese court has upheld a €150,000 fine (US$180,000) on Ford Lusitana for providing inaccurate information during an antitrust investigation into the company’s car warranty clauses.

The Court of Competition, Regulation and Supervision confirmed the fine imposed on Ford Lusitana for false, incomplete or inaccurate information provided to the authorities on the contracts for the extension of the car warranty. The fines were initially imposed in 2015 by the Competition Authority (AdC).

The court now upheld the penalties, noting that Ford Lusitana provided “incomplete information” to the AdC’s request, acting “with an intentional intention” and with conscience that it was engaging in “unlawful conduct.”
