Romania: Deregulation coming to fixed-line sector

 |  November 13, 2013

Romanian regulators are planning to deregulate the nation’s fixed-line telco market following a market inquiry by telecom watchdog Ancom that found sufficient competition within the market.

As a consequence, reports say Romtelecom will not longer be forced to offer subscribers the choice of using any provider’s services; the operator will also be allowed to bundle services, according to reports.

The regulator has established a one-year transition period to deregulate the market.

Despite findings that the fixed-line market is competitive, the watchdog said that the market for call switched transit services has significant barriers to entry and that Romtelecom remains the market dominator in that regard.
