Romania’s Regulator Fines Six Airport Restaurants For Price Fixing

 |  March 24, 2021

Romania’s competition authority announced on Wednesday, March 24, it fined six companies providing food and beverage within Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport with a total of 6.9 million lei (US$1.7 million) for price fixing.

The antitrust body found that Dnata Catering, exclusively entrusted with the management of public catering spaces at the airport in the Romanian capital, has subcontracted five companies with which it has coordinated pricing policies and commercial strategies, the Competition Council said in its decision issued after an investigation started in June 2019.

Thus, price competition was restricted and passengers were deprived of the possibility to pay a lower price or choose services based on their price, the council stated.

Dnata Catering had concluded subcontracting agreements with Food & Beverages Managament, Trotter, City Cafe Express, Primero Business Consulting, and RBK Property Management.
