Recently-announced buyout plans within Singapore’s telecommunications industry has sparked officials to probe the effects of such consolidation and invite public comment on the proposed mergers.
Reports say the nation’s Infocomm Development Authority opened a consultation following Internet provider NetLink Trust’s plans to fully acquire OpenNet; SingTel, which owns NetLink Trust, also currently owns OpenNet in part of a four-way joint venture.
In a statement, the IDA said it would especially focus on how such a transaction will ensure the continuance of certain regulatory requirements, including effective open access to the Internet.
The parties have already made commitments to ease competition concerns regarding the deal, according to reports.
