Sky TV warned for potential Fair Trading Act violation

 |  July 8, 2012

The New Zealand Commerce Commission has warned Sky TV for possibly misleading customers in violation of the Fair Trading Act. A subscriber had filed a complaint with the watchdog after Sky charged him $25 for an upgrade. A promotion had offered the upgrade for $1. An investigation by the Commerce Commission found that 2,633 customers were similarly charged.

Sky’s explanation was that its phone service had not been updated with the corrected pricing. The subscribers who were overcharged have been credited. The Commerce Commission has said that Sky will continue to be monitored.
