Turkey’s Antitrust Regulator Fines Unilever Over Abuse Of Power

 |  March 23, 2021

Turkey’s Competition Authority imposed a 480 million lira (US$60.5 million) fine on the local division of multinational consumer goods giant Unilever over abuse of dominant position in the ice cream sector, Turkish media reported.

The antitrust body completed an investigation into allegations that Unilever violated Turkey’s competition law by creating de facto exclusivity by preventing the sale of rival products at sales points through various practices, Anadolu Agency reported on Monday, March 22.

According to the antitrust body, Unilever’s local arm hindered competition in sales areas of 100 square meters or smaller by trying to dictate the fridge capacity given to products of rival companies.
