UK: British gas reveals 5% gas price cut

 |  July 15, 2015

Nearly seven million energy customers will see their annual bill fall by around £35 after British Gas today said it would cut household gas prices by 5 percent.

The price cut, which will benefit 6.9million British Gas customers on standard and ‘fix & fall’ tariffs, comes a week after the competition watchdog found some energy firms were overcharging customers by as much as £160 a year.

Tariffs offered by the big six energy suppliers were around five per cent higher than they should have been between 2009 and 2013, the Competition and Markets Authority reported after a year-long inquiry into the energy sector.
