UK Watchdog Considers Probe On Visa’s Acquisition of Plaid

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority announced on Tuesday, June 16, that it is considering whether Visa’s agreed acquisition of fintech startup Plaid would harm competition in the UK. 

The antitrust regulator stated in a filling it is inviting comments on the transaction from any interested party until July 10. 

Visa in January announced it would buy Plaid for US$5.3 billion, as part of an effort by the card giant to tap into consumers’ growing use of financial-technology apps and noncard payments.
