US: Consumers accuse Japanese tire companies of antitrust violations

Three consumers are suing Japanese tire companies, alleging antitrust violations.

Jerry A. Anderson Sr. of Kentucky, Laura L. Larue of Kentucky, and Christopher A. Lee of Texas, filed a class action complaint, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, Nov. 15 in US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against Bridgestone Corporation, Bridgestone APM Company, Yamashita Rubber, Yusa Corporation, Sumitomo Riko Company, DTR Industries, Toyo Tire & Rubber, Toyo Tire North America OE Sales, and Toyo Automotive Parts (USA), alleging they participated in a conspiracy to artificially inflate the prices of anti-vibration rubber parts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs suffered monetary damages from purchasing anti-vibration rubber parts at inflated prices. The plaintiffs allege the defendants engaged in anti-competitive practices to artificially inflate the price of their anti-vibration rubber parts.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, damages, treble damages, enjoin and restrain the defendant, all legal fees and interest, plus all other relief the court deems just.
