US: Dechert adds new antitrust Litigator

 |  February 9, 2016

In a rare lateral move for Dechert in Philadelphia, the firm has hired an antitrust partner who has served as a member of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s six-person leadership team.

Steven E. Bizar began at Dechert on Feb. 4 after 15 years with Buchanan Ingersoll, where he served in various leadership positions over the years, including most recently as an executive shareholder.

Bizar is bringing a portion of his antitrust litigation practice to Dechert because of the larger, international platform it provides and because of the working relationship he has developed with some of Dechert’s antitrust partners in the last nearly 10 years.

“I represent foreign multinationals and it is critical to be able to represent them in as many markets as possible,” Bizar said of why it was an easy decision for him to move his practice to Dechert.

His clients don’t just have antitrust regulatory concerns in Washington, D.C., Bizar noted, but in the European Union hub of Brussels as well. Dechert has several European offices, including in Brussels. Bizar said having to farm out the European work to another firm can create “disharmony,” making a move to Dechert’s platform a great opportunity at the right time in his career.

Because of conflicts and other issues, Bizar said some of his clients will remain at Buchanan Ingersoll. While Bizar said there is always “tumult” when someone from firm management leaves a firm, he said Buchanan Ingersoll is a very well-run firm that will be fine without him.
