US: FCC, telco heavyweights gear up for spectrum auction

The Federal Communications Commission is preparing for its upcoming spectrum auction and has released the names of 33 qualified participants so far, a list that includes telco giants Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile.

According to reports, 33 bidders have been given the green light to participate, while 47 entities still have “incomplete applications,” the FCC said. The auction is slated for November 13 and will place two kinds of spectrum up for sale that reports say will help wireless companies boost their LTE Networks.

AT&T is on the FCC’s list of incomplete applicants, while Sprint is the only nationwide operator absent from the list of bidders. The company announced last month that it does not plan on participating in the auction.

Dish Network, which acquired spectrum through an auction earlier this year, had previously stated plans to participate in November’s bidding, though the status of its plans was not reported.
