US/Japan: Maritime regulator fines car shipping colluders $1M

 |  February 13, 2014

The US Federal Maritime Commission has reportedly fined Japan-based shipping firm Mitsui OSK Lines and its affiliate Nissan Motor Car Carrier to end an investigation into the companies alleged collusion in violation of US ocean freight regulations.

Reports say the authority settled with MOL, which agreed to pay $1.3 million in fines.

Similar allegations against K Line and NYK lead to fines of $1.1 million and $1.2 million, respectively.

The companies in this case have reportedly agreed to cooperate with the rest of the investigation, which is looking into allegations of anticompetitive behavior between ocean shipping companies.
