US: Joe Biden says he’s open to breaking up Facebook

 |  May 14, 2019
According to CNBC Joe Biden said Monday that he would be open to breaking up Facebook, a sign of the deep skepticism among many Democratic presidential contenders about the power of massive technology firms.

Asked during an interview with The Associated Press about breaking up tech companies such as Facebook, Amazon or Google, as 2020 rival Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has championed, Biden said, “I don’t think we spend nearly enough time focusing on antitrust measures. And the truth of the matter is I think it’s something we should take a really hard look at.”

Warren has been the most outspoken Democratic presidential candidate to press for greater regulation of Silicon Valley’s most prominent companies.

Regardless of whether Facebook is ultimately broken up, Biden told the AP, the Trump administration hasn’t done enough to enforce antitrust laws in a variety of industries.
