Beau Buffier has been named new chief of the antitrust bureau in New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office.
Buffier, 40, has been with Shearman & Sterling in New York since 2001, a partner since 2006 and co-head of its global antitrust practice since 2011.
Schneiderman said in a statement Thursday that the Australia native and New York University School of Law graduate will “spearhead some of our office’s most innovate and critical work” as bureau chief of the antitrust unit. Buffier will start Oct. 10.
In addition to being licensed to practice in the US, Buffier is admitted to practice in the UK, before the European Commission and in Australia, and has advised on transnational transactions and investigations. He has defended mergers and acquisitions before U.S. and foreign antitrust authorities and represented domestic and foreign clients in civil and criminal matters, according to his professional bio.
The bureau enforces state laws against anticompetitive business practices as well as the state’s interests in national antitrust matters on behalf of the attorney general’s office.
He succeeds Eric Stock, who left as antitrust bureau head in June to become a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
