US/South Korea: Airline team-up won’t stop Delta from competing

 |  June 2, 2014

Delta Air Lines is looking to strengthen its competitive edge within South Korea despite its partnership with Korean Air, reports say.

The US airline is gearing up to launch a daily nonstop service between Seattle and Seoul later this week. In a statement Delta managing director for the Asia-Pacific region said “with any airline partnership, a bit of overlap in services and a bit of competition are inevitable.”

Delta and Korean Air are both part of the SkyTeam global airline alliance, according to reports. Delta’s new service will mean the two airlines will operate the same route.

Despite the competitive route, Delta said it still considers Korea Air as a “partner,” and that the new route could actually strengthen the relationship between the two companies.
