US: Trump Will Announce Supreme Court Nominee July 9?

 |  July 2, 2018

President Donald Trump says he plans to announce his nominee for a new Supreme Court judge on July 9, reported Reuters. He told reporters on board the presidential aircraft Air Force One he had narrowed the choice down to “about five” candidates, including two women.

He would not identify the candidates by name. “It’s a great group of intellectual talent … they are generally conservative,” Trump said.

When asked about several specific potential nominees mentioned in recent days, including federal jurists Brett M. Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, and US Senator Mike Lee from Utah, Trump said each was “outstanding.”

Speaking to reporters on route from Washington to his private golf club in New Jersey, Trump said he may interview two contenders for the nomination this weekend.
