Viterra’s proposed auction system for wheat exports needs more work

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will work with the wheat industry and Viterra to improve the proposed auction system for bulk wheat exports. The auction system is required under Viterra’s access undertaking, and is to allocate port terminal capacity among competing exporters. The ACCC believes that the auction system is similar to what is currently in place in Western Australia, a system acknowledged as problematic. Thus the ACCC will extend, without penalty, Viterra’s deadlines for meeting its access undertaking.
