The FIFA World Cup and Dysfunctional Television Distribution in the United States Warren S. Grimes (Southwestern Law School)
Abstract: This paper examines television distribution of FIFA World Cup events in the United States and compares the costs of television coverage in the United States with costs elsewhere in the world. The article explains how the current system of bundled distribution of television channels for pay TV viewers contributes to the high payments made by US viewers relative to non-US viewers. It explores various possible remedies that could lead to more competitive and consumer-friendly options for US viewers to watch FIFA events, other sporting events, and other video programming.
