Colombia: Claro chides competitors following monopoly accusations

 |  July 9, 2019
Mobile phone company Claro, part of multinational América Móvil, has sent a letter to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in response to accusations made against it by its competitors, the telephone operators Tigo , Móvistar, and others.

Claro said that its competitors are trying to use this move in order to gain greater market share with minimal investments in Colombia. In addition, Claro said, the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce has not found evidence to confirm Claro’s alleged dominant position in the local market.

“Instead of promoting competition for the benefit of users, the other competitors want to achieve regulatory advantages that allow them to gain market share without making the investments that the country needs,” said Claro.
