Dietrich was Taylor Wessing’s head of competition, EU and trade at the Germany office. Reports say he makes Herbert Smith’s sixth lateral partner hire since the firm began operating in Germany last year.

According to reports, Dietrich specializes in merger and acquisition deals and other competition proceedings before Germany’s Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission. He will join HSF at its Frankfurt office.

In a statement, Herbert Smith says the hire is part of its goal to become a leading competition law practice in Germany. The firm opened an office in Frankfurt last February and quickly followed up by opening doors in Berlin last April.
