Air France-KLM, Alitalia, Delta joint venture probed by EC

 |  January 27, 2012

The European Commission has opened an investigation into a joint venture between Air France-KLM, Alitalia and Delta. All three are members of SkyTeam–SkyTeam is one of the top three world-wide airline alliances. The joint venture calls for agreements between the airlines to coordinate transatlantic operations for capacity, schedules, pricing, and revenue management; the airlines were also to share profits and losses. These agreements were signed between the three airlines in 2009 and 2010. The EC is to investigate if this joint venture violates Article 101 of the TFEU.

The EC has also announced that it has closed formal proceedings for its probe into the cooperation agreements between eight members of SkyTeam: Aeromexico, Air France, Alitalia, Continental Airlines, Czech Airlines, Delta, KLM and Korean Air Lines.
